Try finding someone to study with or making flash cards instead of just reading directly from the text book. You can also try reading for short periods of time instead of trying to read it all in one or two days.

I too hate studying. A LOT.
What I do, to keep me focused, is pace myself. I know that if I let it, I will nearly always end up cramming for a test the night before. And all of my books are long and ridiculously boring.

SO! I just have to use common sense.

If the test in next week, on monday, I'll read the first half of the chapter, and take bullet point style notes (DON'T end up re-writing the entire chapter. Trust me, I've done it before).

I writes notes on it on monday, and tuesday, then finish the last half on wednesday, and thursday. Look over all of the stuff on friday. Skim over it during the weeked, if I have time, and I'm usually pretty ready for it on Monday.

Picture things in a more 'fun' way. What I mean is...(just an example) Lets say you were studying the civil war...and couldn't remember which were the Yankees and which were the Confederates. Now...you pick the names of two people you know, one with the first initial Y, and the other with the first initial C....and envision them dressed in either blue or grey. Confederates are grey, and Yankees are blue.

You can also draw pictures of what you're studying. Sometimes it helps to see a picture, rather than just words. You may remember things easier that way.

Mnemonic devices help. If you're trying to remember Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species...make up a sentance. Kings play chess on fine grained sand. Each first letter in the sentance represents the words you need to remember, in order.

Hope that helps!

Good luck!
