Some young babies sleep with their eyes partially closed so it may look like they are staring but are actually asleep. Others eyelids will flutter like they are waking up but don't.

Not sure how old they are but my child would stay up as long as I did, but not staring at me....maybe they really like you What do they do while looking at you cry laugh smile, want you to play?

how old are your neices? I would imagine they are just studying your face (that's completely normal for infants). If they are older- my guess is that you are intriguing to them. Maybe they are just fighting sleep- that's normal.

you said babies? how old are they? something in your face that catches their attention....!!!!you should advice them to go to bed....its not healthy for babies to be awake up to 2am....
