i think he should see a doctor soon. sudden weight loss can be caused by a lot of different things. he should have a complete checkup along with blood work. bleeding ulcers (if he has them) can be very serious.

Hi..your history is really skimpy! How much weight and over what period of time are the 2 most basic facts that any doc would need.
Assuming that there is a significant enough weight loss for you to post this question..it is difficult to answer it without more info and without scaring you!
If you ask me for a differential for fairly severe sudden weight loss for no reason...history of ulcers ? where
Diabetes
Hyperthyroidism
HIV/ AIDS
Cancer
Tuberculosis i.e TB
Ulcers in the mouth/around the rectum...Inflammatory bowel disease
Some kind of autoimmune process with cutaneous manifestations..like Polyarteritis Nodosa
Hepatis C with Cryoglobulin induced skin ulcers....I could go on and on......
But honestly have him evaluated by an MD...I can answer based only on assumptions....and the reality may be totally different.

If you don't want scary answers from me, go see a doctor. See a doctor anyway. Losing weight for no reason is not normal. It could be thyroid, adrenaline imbalance, a digestion and absorption problem, or a tumor, or something else entirely. Drag him to a doctor for his own good.

You didn't really put a lot of information to go on. His best bet would be to go to a doctor to get a check up and some blood tests. There are many things that can cause weight loss. Parasites, thyroid problems, stress, etc. Please have him see a doctor!

Its very simple calories in minus calories burned. They've either changed their eating habits (and you just dont know about it) or they're burning more calories.

If they really truly haven't done anything to increase their exercise, their metabolism may have speed up; one reason would be hyperthyroidism, other reasons are scary stuff.

If they truly haven't changed anything and have lost more then 10% of their body weight they should get checked out.

If he has ulcers now, that could be why, he really needs to go to the Dr. I don't want to scare you but it sounds serious, if he's eating and loosing weight? maybe it's his thyroid go get it checked A.S.A.P
