There are so many diferent problems that have to be addressed under that one title, so no one invention or quick-fix solution will suffice. Think how many factions must endorse your answer for it to be attainable. Are there bi-products. Are these going to be acceptable. Whatever you plan must be financialy viable. The current owners of world energy supplies are not going to want to relinquish power so how can they retain it by endorsing your plan?

The answer is simple. Its finding the will to do it that seems to be the stumbling block. Simply stop consuming so much of the world's resources. Stop consuming so much energy. Ride a bike instead of driving a car. Heat your house less. Design more energy efficient buildings. Work less. Yup. Work less. Spend your leisure hours doing healthy things that involve human power and we will all be happier and healthier. Trust me - its true! We just have to do it.

It would require that the countries causing the most damage make some sacrifices, which they are not willing to do, preferring to leave the problem to their descendants.
The USA contributes 25% of all the greenhouse gases produced in the world. Far more than India and China who have populations in the billions.
It would be a start if we could turn off the lights in empty office buildings at night.

I highly recommend that you read the novel titled "State of Fear" by Michael Chrighton. He authored "Jurassic Park", "Andromeda Strain" and many others. I learned SO MUCH about global warming...I was truly amazed and am now armed with the knowledge needed to do what's needed. (After you read it, you'll know what I mean).

The book addresses the problem of global warming with hundreds of factual data tables while telling a very entertaining fictional story. (When I say "factual"...I mean exactly that...not the "DaVinci Code" kind of facts).

Build more nuclear power plants, build mass's of wind turbine's, stop building cars and trucks that don't get 60 mpg of gas or better, shut down coal fired power plants, build more tide generators, they work, but not many people have ever heard of them, build house's that consume almost no energy , ( it is being done in Germany) , (but contractors want the easy fast money),,( along with money, greedy real estate sales persons), stop school busing, let mom and dad be responsible to get them there. put controls on decil engines...just to name a few..

scrap cars and go back to horses. transport goods by canals etc.

by-product... manure, can be used to fertilise soil so more plants grow to expand carbon sinks and deal with the existing problem.

financially viable because horses reproduce themselves for nothing, you just have to wait til they grow up (and in that time you can open petting zoos etc. and charge rich parents for riding lessons).

current owners of world energy supplies aren't going to endorse anything unless they own all the horses. so forget them. power to the people.

we know all the answers, less cars, consumerism etc but surely its inevitable that the world is due for another major change. we've been through major changes before and the world has regenerated. selfish as it may be against future generations but shouldn't we enjoy what we have now instead of trying to convince people that aren't listening (bush etc) that we should change

Apart from the answers given, I fear it may be too little, too late, as we seem dead set on taking the kids to & from school in the 4x4, smoking & generally abusing the environment around us. The majority of us no longer seem interested in recycling or saving the planet - merely leaving it to its own devices & slowly destroying itself.

One volcanic eruption can spew as much pollution as 10 years from every car/truck in the WORLD.
To tell me that global warming is caused by what we do is giving us WAY too much credit.

Apparently China is now the largest producer of pollutants. Maybe they will shut their factories in order to save the enviornment.
