Most definately anything by Jude Deveraux. The Raider, The Black Lyon, All four Velvet books, Eternity, Rememberance, A Kinght in Shining Armor, Twin of Ice Twin of Fire, and any other Jude Deverux's. Also one of my very favorite historical fictions is A Kingdom of Dreams, by Judith McNaught, and Whitney, My Love-also by Judith McNaught. Falling For You and Lead Me On by Julie Ortolon are both good modern day books with some history.

I agree with Jane Austen, you can't go wrong with Philippa Gregory. If you feel adventurous, try The Memoirs of Cleopatra and the Autobiography of Henry VIII by Margaret George.
Two other authors in this genre are Jean Plaidy and Margaret Trouncer.
