the drain cock is near the bottom of the radiator, not on the cap side, it's on the other side. it is a wing nut looking device, usually made out of plastic, on newer vehicles.

mix anti-freeze and water 50-50.

MOST LIKELY- your car has a bleed valve, to remove air from the cooling system. if you dont get the air out , it will not cool properly. i cant explain to you where it is, so, my advice is: LET A MECHANIC DO IT FOR YOU. watch him do it this time, you do it next time.

it doesnt cost too much.

Yes, that is what it means . I don't know why they are doing it however. Antifreeze should be approximately 50% of the coolant. You can check that by checking the protection degrees. Unless you have a fairly old car, there is no need to drain the antifreez, particularly if it looks good. Generaly the drain is on the bottom of the radiator, right or left on the engine side.

Yes, there are drain plugs on the raditor and on both sides of the engine block. You remove them ,flush with water , until it runs clear, then replace with a 50/50 mix of anti freeze and water untill it is protected fro the weather in your area.

If it's a GM, it's good idea to get the original coolant out of there before it causes problems. You can do it yourself, but be sure and capture the old coolant so it doesn't get into the storm drain or lay around for a pet to lick up. it will kill them.

Did they advise it replaced into thoroughly crammed with it? if so, you're speaking a jiffy of working, ought to start to overheat. in case you in easy terms drove it on short journeys you will possibly no longer sense something, and in case you weren't paying interest to the gauges, it would final awhile. in case you merely offered this as used, and the mechanic merely potential there is distinctive end leak, somebody replaced into attempting to hide a radiator leak in all likelihood.
