You have some excellent advice here- by using salt and burying them are the most profound ways of eliminating negativity from the cards. A word of caution; depending on the last usage of the cards, they must be wrapped in black to destroy said negativity and preferably do a banishing. You couldn't ask for a better time to do it if you decide to take this route; I know that cards speak to us, not the other way around. If you find that a deck doesn't feel right, do some hunting for others- there are over 1000 decks on the market. I own and use 9, going on 13. Tarot cards should never be destroyed unless the negativity is so severe that it rules a banishing.

I usually sell my old decks on eBay and because they have been well used by me they fetch 2 to 3 times the price of a new deck. So discard them by all means but don’t throw them away, put them on eBay and see what you get.

You can use this four minute video as a brief meditation on the tarot that, repeatedly viewed, will help you learn how to read tarot cards psychically. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/tarotvision.html

Why do you want to destroy them?

If you must then burn them, but if you have a friend who can use them give them away to be used by someone else.

I threw away 2 decks one in 1975 and one in 1989, but I did so because I was Christian at the time and felt like I needed to because I thought it was a sin.

I now have 4 decks and I will not ever get rid of them or destroy them.

i don't think you should ever perpously destroy tarot cards, but if you must, do what sarah said.

i have an egyptian deck that didn't work for me but i never destroyed it, i gave it to my astrology teacher cause she loved that deck and lost the one that she had.

Why destroy them?

But if you must, don't burn them--burning releases energy. The best way to get rid of something, without possibly dangerous repercussions, is to wrap it in cloth and bury it with salt.

Why? It's just cards. Even Wiccans know that the cards are nothing more than a way to focus your own energy to accomplish a task.
