Do you mean you can't be without a cell phone because your work demands it, or because you want to be accessible to your friends? If it's social, you can cut it off or way back. If you have a contract, you're probably stuck with it until the contract is up.
Then you could get one of the phones where you just pay for the minutes you use - that might give you incentive to cut back and do most of your calling on a land line. Or drop it all together - people lived a long time without them, really.

Looks like if you had your own part-time business, the phone could be a useful tool - and tax deductible (see your accountant).
That would help your being able to improve your life-style.
If this is making you wonder : 'How?'
Feel free to email me - I may have a perspective to share.
Also - read Robert Kiyosaki's best seller Rich Dad, Poor Dad to find out why you have more month at the end of the money.
You are asking the right questions = part way towards a solution!

MOVE to EUROPE where everyone with a cell phone gets INCOMING CALLS FOR FREE! They do NOT charge you to receive calls unlike in the USA where they charge both caller and receiver (BAD PLAN).
Otherwise, find a plan which charges MINIMALLY for your incoming calls.
PACE YOURSELF! What did you do before you had a cell phone! YOU SURVIVED! And, YOU WILL SURVIVE AGAIN!!!
Keep strong, and keep in touch, but maintain your use to keep it affordable. Just like folks with credit cards. When it gets out of hand, you have to take control and just do without it for a while or you will go under financially! Take charge! You are in control!

Nextel has a $200 a month unlimited minutes. Otherwise, get a land line and use Vonage and spend about $35 a month for unlimited calls over the internet. Talk or walk, your call (no pun intended)...

depending on which state you live , if it is available try metro pcs , for unlimited minutes and txt message local and international txt i pay around 55 dollars which is not bad , the only thing is that it does not work in every state or metro area big problem if you have a job which requires a lot of travel but if metro pcs is not available look out for a carrier that offers same features...

It sounds like you are on the wrong plan. What service do you have? (i.e., Verizon, Cingular, etc.) and about how many minutes do you use a month?

Use it only for emergencies, and find a better carrier.
