Just rename it
ie select the file - press F2 - or rename it.
I case you dont see the file extension.
got to tools -> folder options -> select view -> un check "hide extension............."
this should help you.

you can use a search engine (yahoo or google) and type "htm converter" (if i spelled that wrong, sorry, but it will show you how to spell it correctly, at least on google anyways) and then also type what type of file you're trying to convert it to, and it should give you something that you could download or something in order to get it into the file type you're looking for (I hate looking for converters, i've had to for my music files before, it sux)
Also, I don't know if it will work, but you could possibly try opening the file, clicking "save as" and change the file type that you save it as, if it will let you, some files will let you and others won't

Open the file in a browser such as Internet Explorer, click the File menu button and choose save as, choose the correct file type. If the correct format isn't there, you probably downloaded/saved the wrong thing.

You can choose the program to open it and then see it . If the File format was wrong . chage it to the format you want . the HTML file can save again to HTM file format .

Just put the file name betwen ""
e.g
the file example.htm transfromed into "example.txt"
or rename it, with right mouse click.
