A normal distribution has a mean of 6.8 and a variance of 1.6. Determine the value below which 95% of the data lies.

The answer is 8.88077..why??

According to the standard normal table, 95% of value fall below 1.645 standard deviations above the mean. So take the mean and add 1.645 standard deviations, which in this case would be sqrt(1.6) = 1.2649...

6.8 + 1.645*1.2649... = 8.88077...
