There are different types - is it a southern or Asian tree? the southern magnolias around here bloom late spring and into summer. You may have to wait a few years for it to bloom the first time. We have one about 35ft tall that has blooms about 10" across now.

magnolias take a few years to bloom depending where you live what zone soil type.southern mags.bloom in spring&summer,large whiteblooms.flowering mags.bloom early spring before the leaves come on mostly purple in color some people call it a tulip tree but it is a mag.

It really depends on how big your tree is. If it is not that big and you just got it and planted it, it probably will not make it through the Winter. They bloom in the spring time and summer. They like lots and lots of water and they do better if the have sun and shade.

My bloomed it's 2nd year in the spring, right around Easter. I live in northern Vermont.
