Iraq-before the war and specifically, the role of women as compared to the role of women in other muslim countries.
Also, Holland can be very interesting and fun.

Nigeria for shizzle, baby. There are a lot of things people need to know about nigeria. It is divided - christians and muslims. Muslims are based in the north. Christians everywhere else. The country was ruled by the military until the present civilian President took over. The previous president (really evil) was found dead after having some fun with some prostitutes from india or so. the previous previous president was a thief, and is planning on running for presidency again (but this time, as a civilian). The rich nigerians are stinking rich, the poor ones are drastically poor (the rich get richer evryday, the poor get poorer)...Why then is it that when d media depict the country, they always focus on the poor areas?

Belgium. You probably will be the only one in the class to write about it. The size of Rhode Island this country has a great history background, belonging to the Spanish, the French, the Dutch etc...and finally becoming into its own. Involved in two brutal wars with the German invasion. Belgium also has a town which is named the Venice of the North, Bruges. Canals everywhere and houses centuries old. Old castles are abonded. From the Sea and the flatlands in the Flanders while the poppies grow wild you can drive in a few hours to the Southern part which has the mountains and the wild boar and rivers full of fish. On most corners of large cities you can make a meal from their French Fries indulged with Mayonaise. The Belgians know how to cook, make fantastic laces, weave rugs which last forever. Great painters were born here , Rubens , Brothers Van Eyck etc...Charles the Fifth was born in the city of Ghent and became the great ruler of most of Europe. For the young: tecno music is the rage and cartoon art is taken seriously, so is graffiti under control in some cities. I can't imagine that you will not be interested. Language is Flemish (similar to Dutch) and French. Good luck with your project. (Oh we also boast several hundreds kinds of beer!)

What interests you? Because that will really determine what country you choose. If you like art, you should check out France- their history is filled with artists and artistic movements, and a lot of their government funding goes to the arts. Or, if you're interested in politics, check out Hungary. They have gone through so many political changes, it's crazy! Or check out some of the other countries that came into existence since the USSR fell- new countries are cool to research, because they have little history, but a lot's happened in those few years.

If you are interested in a peacefull country Iceland is the way to go they have never gotten into war (for real) and the Icelandic/Norse Myths are a joy to read. Iceland currently has just over 300,000 people, and though people may tell you they eat ice, they do have 3 mcdonalds, a subways ect. Their main tourist attraction is the Blue Lagoon. They have lava fields all over which are now covered on by moss so it is nice to walk over. They also have the second biggest glacier in Europe, dont hold me to that look that one up. Iceland is really cool, I go to Iceland every year and am Icelandic. You may not be interested in Iceland so you can also do countries like:
Japan
China
England
Germany
Mexico
Iraq
There are over 200 countries to pick from

There's no way for me to tell what interests YOU! :) But some countries that many peopel find interesting are:
1. Egypt (pyramids, mummies, sphinx, pharoahs, Moses, heiroglyphics... one of the few "modern" Arab countries today, population Muslim & Christian)
2. Saudi Arabia (world's #1 exporter of oil, birthplace of Islam, millions of Muslims visit it for the Hajj pilgrimage, non-Muslims not allowed in the two holy cities Makkah and Madina, women not allowed to drive)
3. USA (world's only super power! 6 out of 8 Nobel prizes this year went to Americans, freedom, fight against terrorism)

Any of the countries making the transition from communism to capitalism, such as the former U.S.S.R. countries. Actually, China would probably be the most interesting. One of the largest, fastest growing economies in the world and they are technically a communist state but Hong Kong, for instance, is considered the freest market in the world.

Mongolia! Yay! It has a really interesting history(the Mongol Empire was the biggest in human history), and the lifestyle of the people living there is REALLY different, and very interesting. The people who don't live in urban areas live in the gorgeous countryside and are livestock herders, living a life that hasn't changed very much from hundreds of years ago.
