i had a gnat problem this spring, and i mixed 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1 tsp of dawn dish liquid. gnats are attracted to the smell of the vinegar and dive in the solution and drown. worked great! no more gnats.

Spray with water and bleach solution. This will also help keep mold from growing.. Make sure you flip the pumpkin to drain out any solution that settles in the bottom as this will speed up the decaying process. Vinegar will attract the gnats..

When carving pumpkins you should put them in the fridge until the day before Halloween and then put them outside.

You can try a venus flytrap plant. They are available at homecenters. I recently saw them at Home Depot. Unfortunately, if it is already starting to attact flies it is on the way to rot. Try to keep the pumpkin out of direct sunlight during the day in a cool dry place.

try vinegar in a spray bottle, and lightly mist the inside and outside of the pumpkin

pour a glass of wine most of the gnats will go to the fruity wine but not all try it!

Try the vinegar/dishsoap thing that JO suggested. Give it just a little time but It really does work.
