My 6 month old throws up violently after I feed her rice cereal.
I introduced rice cereal at 4 months and then stopped it.
Now that I tried it again the same thing happened. She also throws up Barley.
I had read that rice cereal is the least allergic and my doc too says that its the best for infants and has told me to keep trying.
I have been giving her oatmeal instead and she loves it.
Has anybody's baby had an allergy to Rice cereal ?
Thanks

Rice allergies are rare, but they exist. Also, sometimes there is cross contamination with other grains. That means small amount of something like wheat might slip in even though it isn't on the ingredients list. I avoided rice cereal when my son was little because there was some soy lecithin in the ingredients of the organic brand I would have tried, and soy is one of the 8 most common allergens. So, check the ingredients list carefully, too.

It is possible that she just isn't ready to digest solids yet, too. Not everyone is by 6 months. However, if she is keeping the oatmeal down with no other signs of digestive trouble, then that probably isn't it.

Good luck.

Maybe not a true allergy but could be an intolerance to it. As the lady said above, could be the other ingredients in the rice cereal.

True allergies are usually characterized by a rash, itching, or asthmatic symptoms. An intolerance to something is characterized by vomiting. The intolerance will probably be outgrown by the child later (similar to some kids that need soy formula instead of regular due to milk intolerance--they grow out of it as they get older).

Talk to your doctor about the oatmeal and make sure that this is acceptable. Also, trying the organic rice cereal like mentioned above could be worth a try. As long as your doc does not have any major objection to using oatmeal, then use that instead.

It could be the consistancy. Try mixing the rice cereal with something you know she doesn't have a problem with like a different first food such as applesauce or bananas. Gerber even makes a jarred baby food with cereal in it.

my son isnt allergic to rice but he liked oatmeal better. maybe she just doesnt like it. unless they say there's a problem with giving her oatmeal just give it to her and forget the rice. rice cereal is just easier to introduce as a solid because its so fine.
