I've heard they're cheaper but how much do you save a week if you usually buy a peak time zone 1 and 2 travelcard at 6.20 five days a week. I've just never got round to getting one and I get a travelcard every day. Mug, I know. Tell me what I'd save and I might force myself to leave 5 mintues early on monday and get one.

Buy an Oyster Card and put a weekly travel card on it. For zones 1-2 that is £22.20 a week. You will save £8.80 a week plus all the time queuing for you ticket everyday.
If you use an Oyster card as a Pay As You Go you will pay 50p less each day than your daily Travel Card.
You need never queue to buy a ticket again as you can top it up on the internet.

You can load your Oyster card with money for Pre Pay use. The Oyster card will then cap the amount you spend to 50p less than the equivalent paper ticket i.e. if you limit your travel to Zone 1-2, the Oyster card will limit your cost to £5.70 for peak travel, £4.40 for off peak travel. The thing with this is that you can't always use Oyster Pre Pay on all National Rail Services. If you wish to do use National Rail Services, you must buy a Daily Travelcard on your Oyster and will cost £6.20. A weekly travelcard on Oyster will cost you £22.20.
As a sidenote, you can go online to pay for your Oyster card to be loaded. When paying online, you specify the station at which the card will be loaded. You will have a few days to go through the gates at the specified station for the card to loaded. This way you don't have to queue at the station.

Go to train station, get Oystercard. Go to newsagent & credit it with however much you need for the day/week/month - however much you want. Generally, it will only take £3-£4 off per day, however much you use it, cos it'll never take more than the price of a 1 Day Travelcard. So, if you get on a bus or train & it doesn't take anything away from your credit, you know why. Best to keep track of your expenditure, though, cos you may find you get thrown off the bus for having no credit!!! Watch out, too, for the Oyster pads on buses - sometimes they don't work & you may be charged.

you pay £6.20 for 5 days whereas is you had a weekly you would pay £22.20 for zones 1-2 use it any time and for a week!
also with oyster you save 50p on single during the week and a bit more a the week end

It depends for what time you are buying oyestercard. You can buy an oyestercard for a month for 30 pounds.... and when you renew it, you get discount. Even for travelling to Chassington or Wimbeldon from Waterloo you get discount.
