Or by having two on is it better than none?

Having two on IS NOT better than one but better than none. Someone already stated that they can conflict with each other which is true to some extent but that is only half of the problem. The other half is that if you have it in "learning" mode you will have to grant program access twice or grant routines of the same program access more than once, sometimes the same program launches two or three routines that want access so you could potentially need to permit the same thing, six times, does that sound like fun? If it does then go ahead and do so.

It is best recommended to run a single (uno, one) firewall and when possible be behind a hardware firewall (a router...). I don't reccomend running two software firewalls at once. Having a software firewall and a hardware firewall is the best solution but can usually only be implemented at home or a place of business, on the road you will have to rely on your single software firewall.

I like the following:

Sygate Personal Firewall
Comodo Personal Firewall
Zone Alarm

-All come in free versions

No two firewalls will conflict, however you can get a hardware firewall (router) along with your software firewall.
