Humidifiers are good for you and your house. Try to keep it at 40-50% humidity. Spores grow at 70% humidity.

A humidifier won't help dry eyes. See an opthalmologist. You need special eye drops.

Humidifiers are often incubators for fungus and mold. They need to be cleaned regularly and thoroughly or all they do is atomize the spores and spread them through the rooms they're used in a form that is easily breathed in.

Seriously, you may have allergy as they can affect your sclera. Do you wear contacts? If it turns out you do have allergies, dailies are the way to go.
