Movies recently have either been remakes, sequels, book-to-movie, comic-to-movie, real-life-to-movie, etc, or original but just plain BAD. I have seen very VERY few movies that are both original and good.
Music is the same way. All the songs are starting to sound the same and many new artists are just one-hit-wonders. Rap songs are all, "my hoes, and bling, and 27 inch rims".
Where have all those movies that just completely shook the world? The cult classic, the breakfast club, to Rocky Horror Picture Show, to all those Monty Python movies?? THOSE were original.
Ok, this IS a question. Does anyone agree with me? And has anyone seen an original GOOD movie? Or heard a good song that doesn't sound like all the others?

Recently, I have just made it a point to listen to classic music. If you have given up on music, go to the oldies, the stuff your parents and grandparents listened to. You will be shocked at what you find.

Bumppo: Actually, I DO listen to that era of music. I love anything during and before the fifties. Yeah, some of it would probably be banned now (and we thought people were so stuffy back then!). I LOVE that kind of music! Thank you

I agree, I think Americans are so stuck in a remake mode that we hardly get original work anymore. How many times can we see black versions of an old all white movie, just to prove a point?
How many times can they make Superman? I mean they even made it into a TV series. And how many times will Puffy (who claims he invented the remix) use and old beat from a song he heard when he was a kid?
I think the most original and classic movie that has been recently thrown at us was Crash. The movie suggests everything that is wrong with the US now.
And if you want to hear some good original music listen to Raheem DeVaugh's Love Experience CD. WOW! I am still blown away by him. A lot of Neo Soul music is original and cause you to open up your brain and think beyond the normal realm of today's music.
And yes I say what I say and I still Love Jay-Z.

what you have said is so true that it is so remarkably sad that the entertainment industry has lost its way during the last few years. the problem isn't just the lack of originality, new ideas and talent but hollywood, as well as other showbiz insitutions are more concerned about making a quick buck, rather than being different, daring, risky and inventive. money rules i'm afraid in this day and age and there haven't been as many films, records, tv shows which deserve appraisal and acclaim. in terms of films of late, so far the only notable successes that i can think of, which aren't remakes of other movies have been crash, sideways and the current cinema hit, little miss sunshine- which we've been hearing and reading good things on. film sequels are just a sad and cheap attempt for movie makers to earn their millions of dollars and run.
but out of the three mediums, film, tv and music, it can be argued that film has been and is the most successful, today -although you can fully disagree with me on this, of course.
the music scene has gone downhill and as for tv, well in regards to this country it is nothing short of abysmal. what happened to the great scriptwriters, singer-songwriters, the wonderful actors and actresses of whom dazzle us with their on-screen performances? the showbiz world needs a kick up the backside as well as a massive injection of creative flair and artistry- and the sooner the better.

I agree with you completely. Having been an artist, I have come to realize that the "money folks" don,t want to risk anything on something new, just the same ole' same ole'. The reason 60's and 70's music is still around, is because it was original, and there was room for everyone to try. (although recording companies always want the "next" , as long as it sounds like the last hit. They don't care, or respect us.

definite, turning out to be older you're dropping your freedom - you get entangled in types and barriers. we are born limitless and a toddler can dream and picture something to take place and has no reason to doubt approximately that. too lots recommendations and much less and much less emotions motives that we cant meet that "eureka" moments as we are no longer emotionally tuned to them. via fact CREATIVITY is the bringing into being of a few thing which did no longer EXIST formerly, the two as a product, a technique or concept. Sorry, i did no longer say which you cant learn something new once you're older or you cant learn or paint or produce some music ... i replaced into conversing with reference to the actual creativity that brings that some thing which you cant learn, some thing that did no longer exist formerly - as no person ought to think of that formerly. The solutions explaining that heavily indexed right here are those approximately fearless or brainstorming - creativity is unconventional loose experience - and has little to do with using your recommendations cos it is nearly a working laptop or pc and desires fairly some enter on a similar time as being imaginitive potential to forget approximately approximately that. turning out to be older human beings or youngsters - the two you're or are not imaginitive. in basic terms fairly some the mankind progressively gets constrained via fact that they have been grown up and the creativity desires area.

I think that entertainment has to come a point where theyre still tryna maintain the old but try something new which hasn't really worked. I know i've gone back to alot of old rnb music and watching the classic movies like back to the future. There are movies that are good that are different and music but its the lowkey stuff

Smo,
Go back to the 1920's and 30's, look into the real obscure music. Some is as racy as it is today, and most is very thought provoking but after WW2 started, censorship and morality special interest groups started to dull the senses of the average American and a lot of creativity was forced out of the mainstream.

Creativity is changing, people are being creative with the fast changing technology and some of us find it hard to keep up if we are not in the inner circle. On the whole though I do think that the technology is stemming creativity in favour of what can be found on a computer.
I think that generally I agree with you. Every thing seems to have been done before.

I agree with you there !! What we need to do is stop settling for whatever the industry puts out there until they can come up with a song that we have never heard before or a movie that is not a re-make of some lost piece of celluloid .

I haven't seen a movie that was origianl in a very long time... but Jack Johnson write original songs. Everyone else write love songs but his songs are original because he can write something OTHER then love songs. Here's a link to his website http://jackjohnsonmusic.com/. I really love his music (although the actually music, not lyrics, can be rather similiar to some of his other songs)!
