First of all, please no criticisms. I am six weeks pregnant and have no health insurance. This past year my fiance (this is his account that's why the avatar is a guy) claimed me on his taxes as married. Because of the tax situation I don't think I'll be eligible for Medicaid. While his income is very good, we have a lot of financial things going on right now. We are closing on a house this coming week, his teenage brother is living with us, etc. I don't expect to have my costs completely covered, but are there any programs out there that may assist in the cost of prenatal care and labor&delivery? Also, about how much is it for prenatal care and labor with a two day hospital stay?

The cost all is determined by doctors and hospitals and can be very different from state to state and even city to city. What I suggest is to find a doctor that will work on a payment plan, this will allow you to have a lot of debt behind you even before the baby is born. Say the doctor changes a flat fee of $2,000 for a normal deliver (actual cost I do not know, but I think it can be higher or lower depending on your area) plus $100 per visit. So you will have about 12 doctors visits making that total of $1200. Bringing your aproxiamate bill to $3200 dollars, so over the time instead of paying it all in the end and $100 each time you visit, you could pay little by little each month and have a smaller bill in the end. Now with hospitals I know they will do payment plans after but I am not sure that is something you should look into. I know that with my deliver they offered a 25% discount on my total bill if I put a deposit of $500 or more down before I delivered. Which saved a lot of money. ( pre insurance it was around $10,000, after I was left with around $3,000 to pay, with the discount I saved about $750, plus the $500 I already paid. So I was left to pay about $1750, which wasn't as bad as my bill before)
Look into all the options with your doctor (and try to find one that you like and will be the best price for you) and the hospital.

Only thing I can say is once you go into labor there's not a hospital in the world that will deny you service whether you have insurance or not.
I suggest you start utilizing the Internet to find some help instead of yahoo answers.
I don't know how far along you are but the sooner prenatal care is started the better chances you'll have a healthy baby. GOOD LUCK

The bill that I got from just the hospital for a vaginal normal delivery for myself using an epidural was $12,000. With insurance, my part was about $400. That was at a private hospital.
If you go to a charity hospital, you are charged according to what you earn. So, maybe it's good that you aren't married and can claim your income, then not have to pay as much for the birth.
There are also bills for anesthesiologist, doctor's delivery fee, bloodwork and a bill for the baby itself. In some states there are required blood tests for the baby as well as a hearing test.

I would talk with someone from human services. They may be able to use check stubs as proof of income rather than tax statements, which might help you. Also, if you have other medical expenses, they might take that into account when considering your income. Just talk to someone at human services. The worst thing they could do is tell you you don't qualify and you're no worse off than you are now.

try applying for the state funded programs. they are usually really lenient towards pregnant moms. i did this with my first and everything was completely covered. prenatal care and the hospital stay can reach up to 10,000 dollars if you have no help. go to your state medical office and apply asap. they will also give you free vitamins and other really cool things like car seats, formula, diapers, etc... I am in California and went on medi-CAL. I dont know where you are, but this was an awesome program to be on!!

depending on what state your in you may qualify for state assistance. I know NYS insures all preg women without insurance until the baby is 6 weeks old. It doesnt hurt to call your social services office. They can direct you. Also try WIC they have a high income qualification and can also assist you in what direction you should go w insurance help

No criticisms here I am in the same position. If you cant find a center near you, try going down to your local medicaid office and tell them that you and your boyfriend no longer are together and you are just staying with him out of necessity. That though he claimed you he no longer takes care of you. They'll find a way, a loop hole, something to get you medical care

every pregnant woman is eligible for medicaid no matter what. they will not deny you even if you were an illegal immigrant they have to give it to you if your pregnant. thats the law. you dont have to put anyone on your application but yourself. just go down to dss and get a letter from your doctor.

usually when you are preggy you cannot be denied for medicaid, try family health plus if medicaid denies you, dont tell medicaid you were on his taxes, you still are not married medicaid doesn't ask about taxes. good luck
