I thought we are trying to reduce the number of troops, not increase the number of troops. Do these Republicans get the clue that Americans want to get the hell out?

he has to get through the Republican primaries before he can even THINK about the final race... and he has some work to do inside of the party... many aren't fond of his anti-Bush stances inside the party...

this is probably him trying to work on the conservative base and trying to get a little clout started for the primaries...

It's hard to "tease out" what McCain stands for these days because he's so busy pandering to the neo-cons. My hunch is that he's actually very sensible and main stream. He was a prisoner of war at the "hanoi hilton" during Vietnam, so he understands the "price" of war. Also - his 18 year old son enlisted, so he's mindful for personal reasons as well. McCain knows Americans want to get out and I believe that he feels this is the right course also...Now, if he'd just be authentic and say that, we'd all vote for him...

Pretty simple really, that man can say it the way he believes it is, and then let the politics fall where it may. I don't know about anyone but me, but I would love to run into a bunch more like him in Washington. Then maybe we really would be able to find a proper way out of Iraq (and a few other messes as well)
McCain would make a perfect running mate for Collen Powell

A statement was made jointly by the Iraqi Prime Minister and the US Ambassador to Iraq, today, that once the Iraqi security forces are strong enough to handle their nation, and the militias lay down their arms, that the US will re-activate the timetable for withdrawal.

As much as I like and respect John McCain - and I'm a Democrat, by the way - this is the exact reason he wouldn't get elected. Its also a good reason why he should run and get the nomination - it would insure a Democratic victory in '08.

He's one of the smart rat's trying to get off the sinking ship. Too little too late--- it's out to sea and the sharks love rats!! A little bit of political posturing to show a distinction between him an Bush after he nutted up and took a stand on the torture bill and then flip flopped under partisan pressure--WHOOPSIE! C'mon--what's another twenty-thousand gonna hurt? Maybe their gonna be sent there for the "exit strategy"--a.k.a cut-n-run when it's a Dem idea--that's gonna be announced after the election---YEAH RIGHT!!

Americans that are versed in military history don't just want "out",
they want better leadership so we can achieve stability in the region, and this includes dealing with Iran and Syria........
