Do you know because I have never heard an explaination. In case you still don't get it it is a derogatory name for gay men. I do not use it but am curious as to how it came to be.

The word "f.a.g" is derived from the English term "*****" which is a description for a bundle of wood or tinder. It was used to stoke the fire when burning someone at the stake. Gays were persecuted and burned alive, and "******" were used as fuel, hence the word "f.a.g"

In the UK we're fond of eating *******. It's a kind of pork meatball made from pig heart, liver and fatty belly meat with herbs added.

Wikipedia also recalls an advert that was banned on grounds of taste. A husband complains about the repetitive meals he's served saying "I've nothing against *******, I just don't fancy them".

actually f.a.g'ot is a bundle of firewood, f.***** means exhaust and is an offensive term for a homosexual........ a f.ag is also a cigarette in England. I'm not sure how it came to be a gay term, but anybody better damn well put a MR in front of it if they address me as such (preferably while on their knees)

The etymology of that word is quite confusing. At one time, it also referred to an unpleasant woman. Some believe that it was later associated with homosexual men through that usage.

Apparently it is not always clear but I think the most likely explanation for it's use is it has been used since the late sixteenth century to mean "old or unpleasant woman". Female terms are often used with reference to homosexual or effeminate men (cf. nancy, sissy, queen) and this seems the most likely derivation. It's usage in popular culture seems to have spread from American culture therefore reinforcing it's origin from this 16th century derivative!

The term was originally firebrand, because it was believed that gays would burn in hell. ****** is actually used because gays were burned along with witches because sodomy was one of the practices of satanists at the time..
