A person who just collects coins is called a "coin collector". A person that collects coins and related items, they also study what they have and knows the history involved with there coins, is a "numismatist". They also, usually has an extensive library. So lots of coin collectors, not so many numismatists. Same with stamps, lots of stamp collectors, not so many philatelists. I not only collect coins, but I study them also.
