Why do some people attach an interest in a particular music with a need to dress a certain way. Yet insist they are expressing their individuality.
I once went to see the seminal thrash/speed metal band BadBrains in the 80's and the coolest guy there was wearing a suit and tie, not the usual punk threads. I tried on several occasions during my youth to dress occording to my musical tastes and have always given up as it seemed so ridiculous. Those of you that have or still do tell me why and how

As an older person, I am intrigued with how music has been divided into so many different sub-segments, complete with lifestyle and dress code. I can't imagine defining myself by a genre of music.

Young people like to say that they are expressing their individualism, but the truth is the young are much more concerned about fitting in with a group or crowd. True individualism emerges when you are really free to be yourself. The older I get, the less concerned I am with what other people think of me. It's very liberating.

I don't think anyone dresses a certain way for the rest of your life. Although I've gotta admit it'd be pretty cool seeing 80 year old goth chicks and 75 year old emo guys. we'll maybe not. The point is, people get into certain things at points in their life where it makes sense to them. I can remember dressing some pretty odd ways. I long ago put away my black mascara, mu wife might get the wrong idea... LOL. The best advice I can give is to be yourself. If you feel a little goth today... dress that way. If you're feeling aggressive dress a little punk. Why we have to label everyone is beyond me. I think it just makes everyone feel SAFE, knowing were all pigeonholed, so no one gets exposed. Kinda of like the album The Wall by Pink Floyd.

Well I shall anwer this honestly. Many feel the urge to dress the way in music because they sometimes believe it looks "cool", they believe they're music is connected to their culture. It may be the same although it is proper, why do you dress professionally? Is it because it's ure dress code, is it how u see others dress? Or does look nice like how I mentioned?

Just dress how you want to and don't give a crap what other people say. That's what i do. Oh, and they *much like myself* probably think that's cool. Like how a preppy person would think a short skirt and halter top would be cool.
