it's all rap, why not call it a hip hop station rather than flat out misrepresenting themselves?

The term "Rhythm and Blues" was originally coined by record companies to replace the offensive category "Race Music". In other words, it was a euphemism for "***** music".

However, at the time, it was an appropriate name for the kind of music being published--the blues influence was very obvious. This has obviously changed over the years. Why we have lumped nearly all contemporary music performed by blacks into the R&B category, I do not understand.

Needless to say, since blues is no longer among the preferred styles of young Americans, it will not be heard on the radio except on the hard-to-find dedicated station.

Gotta agree with the other answers. It's about what sells and the demographic that is listening to a certain station. Check your internet connection for music stations. Yahoo and Aol have their own listening programs. Musicmatch is another that I've tried. You can select exactly what you want to listen to. And hey, no commercials!
