I trust the FDA about as far as I can throw them, which isn't far! The prices of prescription meds are out of hand.
I have a chronic autoimmune disease. My immune system is pretty much shot to sh!t. One of the "joys" of that (yes I am being sarcastic) is recurrent yeast infections. It was a never-ending cycle; I'd get an infection, to to the gyno, get treated for it, and as soon as treatment stopped it would come back.
Then I looked into taking a probiotic called acidophilus. I take two capsules per day of the live strains and I haven't had a yeast infection in months!
This is what I take:

I think it's really smart to take herbal remedies instead of traditional Western medicine when someone can. Like traditional meds, they won't all work for everyone. It's more of a trial and error thing, and I wouldn't do it without talking to my doctor first. Lucky I have a kindly old doctor who studied under Deepak Chopra, so he's open- minded to a lot of different things.

Oregano has been around for centuries. It was used by the Egyptians and Greeks. If oregano oil was found to be such an effective cure-all, all those many centuries ago, and stopped the mutation of bacteria, why are their still bacterial infections in people? Why were people dropping like flies back then from the complications of infections? Why is it always some doctor in some obscure part of the world who's found a cure for cancer, but the mainstream media never got a hold of the information, and the natural cure pushers did? Why is it that when people used oregano oil to cure infection the average life expectancy was 33 and now when oregano oil isn't widely used that average life expectancy is 77? Many of the medicines pharmaceutical companies sell are based on plants and herbs, despite what the industry that sells them in their more natural form try to tell people. If a pharmaceutical company found oregano was the end all of infection control they'd certainly make a fortune selling Oreganoxinyl. One of the people who responded to your question talks about acidophilus. It is great for curing yeast infections. It is also packaged by major pharmaceutical companies and widely used in hospitals. Natural medicine companies tell people things like this to sell product, just like everyone else who's trying to get rich. It all depends on how many people they can get to believe it. It's hard to argue logic against what someone else believes to be true, regardless of the numbers and facts that may prove otherwise.

Pharmaceutical companies are not in business for altruistic means. They are in it for the money. Physicians in this country are, for the most part, uneducated and uninformed about 'alternative' and 'adjunct' treatments. They only know what they have been taught, no more. There are many, many items in nature that can be used to prevent and even treat ailments. Producing such things on a wide scale is expensive too, but they are available in good health food stores. We Americans have probably the worst diet on the planet and it is easier to take prescriptions than change our neglectful lifestyle. Few people even know there are alternatives available. Even fewer actually investigate or use such things. Little by little we must let others know they do have a choice - before they wind up on chemo or radiation treatment, etc. All best wishes.

I really don't know who to trust... On the one hand, I believe the FDA is persuaded by money, but on the other hand, I believe that herbal remedy companies are also persuaded by money.
Big corporations that create new medication may not really care about the result of their medication, or even the harm that their drugs can cause. I read that they push their drugs and influence the FDA with money, so that they can sell their product, and after a year, when they find out how dangerous the drug is, they pull it off the market; but by then, they have already made millions.
But on the other hand, when it comes to herbal remedies, there is no proof that the product works, and on each label it states that "These statements have not been approved by the FDA and results may vary. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.", and that makes me a little uneasy as to what to expect from these herbal remedies.
They say it's because the FDA is influenced by the big corporations. That the FDA wont approve it because of the big corporations... That there is no money in a cure... And I believe that to be true... But when I look at that label, I can't help but think that if this product doesn't actually work, or if they lied about the product, I can't get my money back, because the label clearly states it is not intended to cure or prevent any disease.
How many of these products are true to what they say, and how many of these products are lies? At least with FDA approved products that clearly claim to prevent or treat a disease, I can take steps to fight them in court when the medicine doesn't work.
I do believe that there are herbs out there that can be used medicinally, and I have a book that tells me which plants are good for what. The best thing about this book, is that it doesn't tell me what company to buy from.
I also do believe that there are herbal remidies that can cure diseases or cancer that the big corporations don't want us to know about (as I said earlier, there is no money after the cure, but lot's of money in treatment). While I was waiting for my doc to see me, a while ago, I read one of the magazines out there, and there was an article saying that maitake mushrooms may be able to cure cancer. That the cancer can't stand the shroom, so it actually kills itself... I haven't read or heard anything about it since. And there is still "no cure" for cancer.

Visit www.healthfreedomusa.org , read about codex alimentarius. It's a group, formed by the FDA and setting out to limit our access to herbal supplements, vitamins and minerals. A lot of the members of this group are former employees of pharmaceutical companies.
While I do not believe there are natural "cure-alls", we do have a right to choose the course of treatment for our health. Pharmaceutical companies treat symptoms, they don't "cure" either. One medication leads to another and another and another. The USA is the most over medicated country in the world. Yes, it is all about the money.

I think that is kinda a silly question because its so obvious. Have you never noticed at election time in some states most after the white canidates commercial there are food and drug/health commercials and the after a black candidates you see cops and crime commercials. I think you work for the Oregano farmers and are playing ignorant to promote for profit...Good on Ya

The FDA was started in an era of public outrage over wild claims of false cure and quackery. Their sole purpose is to ensure drugs are safe and effective. The fact that sooo many years later many herbals havent applied for approval leads one to believe the only logical conclusion, most of these treatments cant back up their claims.
Drugs cost what they do because of the incredible amount of research that goes in to them. Funny people will spend money they dont have for cell phones and cars but take refuse to spend money to better their own health.

What a crock of HOOEY. Those companies claim all sort of bogus cures. That's what I do for a living...investigate these frauds. They are all fly by night operations and they have absolutely NO clinical evidence to support their claims. It's all about taking your money for these companies. When they get sued for damages, they just start up again under other names. They prey on desperate people (or ones who aren't too bright). Oregano doesn't CURE anything. But it sure make a pizza taste good.
