First of all, go get a 4 sided nail file, you know that includes a buffer and shine side and etc. Those things are awesome! Paint will look better because you can buff away the natural ridges of your toes. When you use one before painting and then put on a clear shine top coat afterwards they look great and last a long time.

It just takes practice. Get one of those toe separator, spongy things, and start painting. Trust me, the more practice you get the easier it'll be for you. I personally, don't like getting my toes done at the salon, because I think I do a better job. Treat your fingernails just like your toes. Use a base coat, probably 2 coats of whatever color you're going to use, and a top coat. And voila!! you have pretty toes. And if you get some on your skin, around the nail no biggie, stick a q-tip in nail polish remover, and go around the edge.

If you can, get someone else to paint your toes and then you can do their's in return. It will look much better; I have two sisters and we do eachother's nails. Comes out great every time.

Hold the brush steadily, then quickly brush down as straight as possible. Use a base coat and a color coat, or use a color coat and a top coat. Then use a cotton swab with a little bit of remover to get rid of any polish that may have strayed.
