I am 37 weeks and am just getting over the flu I got from my daughter. I fed her the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast/dry) but cant get any of those down. I cant get anything but water in right now and am getting really weak, and working. Are there any suggestions that anyone has to get me some energy? Is there an energy drink that is safe? ughh I just dont want to throw up anymore. THANK YOU!!!!

I used to drink gatorade, but that made me constipated (eww) I started having preterm contractions yesterday (they stopped once i started drinking more water) because of the dehydration, so i am at least keeping up on that, but with only water. thank you guys so much for your help, i am writing these all down and having hubby go out and grab me some GRUB!!!

Oranges are always good because their large content of Vitamin C,. Just make sure you don't eat them straight from the fridge, they should warm up to room temperature.

Also dry crackers with honey or marmelade and for drinking herb teas (mint, camomile) should do you good. Just don't make the tea too strong. You don't need an energy drink, it is not good for you, sorry. If you need more energy just add a little sugar to your herb tea. Don't worry about your weight when you're ill, just stick to natural ingredients as much as possible.

My doctor has commanded me to drink 64 oz of gatorade (or powerade, all sport, or another equivalent sport drink with electrolytes) every 24 hours for similar problems. She said that low electrolytes and dehydration caused by diarrhea and vomiting can be a problem for both you and the baby, so keeping hydrated with an electrolyte-containing beverage is very important if you cannot keep down food.

I hope that you feel better soon and have a chance to recover before your delivery!

Best of luck for a safe, easy delivery and a healthy baby!

By the way, once the family is over this, you will probably want to sanitize the house as much as possible before you deliver so your baby is not exposed to those germs. I would suggest rewashing anything you have touched recently and going over everything with Lysol.

Drink clear fluids. That would include trying to eat jello and broth. Try that for a couple of days to see if it helps. As long as you're taking your prenatal vitamin you should be ok.

It's not uncommon to run out of energy at this time in your pregnancy so don't forget that.

I went through this last week, it was AWFUL! I actually sipped and I stress the word sipped, on warm salt water before I tried to eat anything, I waited about 10 minutes and then I was able to hold down toast and warm coke. Don't ask me why this worked but it did. Good luck!

Drink Gatorade. It has electroytes in it...kind of like Pedialyte for babies. Chicken soup, crackers, 7 up, or ginger ale.

call your Dr.... you don't need to eat too much... some soup broth or water... a few crackers or potato chips to help to get the salt back in your system..as long as you don't get dehydrated you should be ok in a few days

To tell you the truth, if you had the flu and you are still feeling low, or you can't eat, you need to talk to your doctor. They can give you something to help you.
