Sofar the only thing I have seen this year is a mattress store that is having a coat drive. But they only accept brand new coats. I have not found any place yet, if at all, that accepts used ones.

I know I could donate them to a thrift store (Goodwill, etc) but I would rather have them in the hands of someone who couldn't afford anything like that as opposed to them buying one. At least where I live, what you find brand new at Walmart or Target is cheaper than the prices the thrift stores charge for used clothing and merchandise, which is insane I know.

If you have a local women's shelter or a homeless shelter they should take them. Look in your phone book.

you can go to the local shelters, you can go to the youth office within your community, some stores actually have that program of coat returns, catholic charitys, any church etc. I'm sure if you look around your area and call they would appreciate them.

I am doing that same thing but I am going to the youth office and the church down the street. Even though i'm not a memeber they are always greatful for the help.

true putting in you yahoo donated used winter coats and there your area. I've given some links that are well known.

I don't know where you live, but where I live there is a rescue mission downtown that accepts coats and blankets for the homeless. We also sponsor meals there. I'm sure if you looked in the phone book, you can find a local homeless shelter who would be glad to take your coats and answer your questions.
God Bless you!!!

goodwill, or local thrift stores. in Kansas City they have a program where u can put clothes in these things that look like trash bins and they come pick them up everyday. they are all over the city, but sometimes people put trash in them so that really sucks.

The City Mission is the best place to donate good clothing. Bring some toiletries to give and maybe a check too. :)

Also if you have children's coat... some inner city schools would like them. The nurses/teachers keep them in a closet so that when the children don't wear coats to school, they can get one out of the closet to use.

You could call the local social services office and see what they recommend. And good looking out. Its nice to see someone that cares for a change.

Don't know where you live, but we have coat drives starting in November. You can also contact homeless shelters in your area, they would really appreciate them. Contact a few churches in your area, they might be collecting too.
