If you think that the only reason people should respect their parents is because it is of some benefit to the parents then you should think again. Learning to respect your parents (yes, it is something that you learn) is of a greater benefit to your because it will put your mind into a place where you can see the bigger view of the universe.
If you cannot respect your parents for who they are then you should respect them for the role that they have in your life because you will probably have the same role (as a parent) some day and you will expect your children to respect you. Think of it as practice in loving someone who is not so easy to love. Believe me, you will need to know this.

Hey Bulldog! That's a very funny question! I don't think that's why parents deserve respect. As a father of a 12 year old and a 14 year old, I know that I have to EARN their respect by being a good person, doing my duty as a parent by listening to their needs, and providing a safe home with all of the basic needs. Frankly, I don't think we owe our parents anything...you're right, we didn't ask to be born!

b/c they think they can get away with a stupid statement like that. Sometimes parents just want their children to listen to them and instead of giving them a reason they can understand and respect they give a half *** reason. You should respect them and listen to them, but they should respect you enough to give you a real reason.

While it's virtually impossible to show respect for someone who doesn't deserve respect, understand that what they should be saying is 'we should thank them for giving us life'. Pity them, then get on with your life and do something really constructive. That'll really piss them off ... but it'll make you feel great.

oh well, such is life, you should still respect them because they are your parents and no matter how it happened you were still born. Although if the parents are complete fuckups then I see no reason to respect them.

The Fourth Commandent: Honor thy father and mom that each and each and every one will go nicely with you, is the in basic terms Commandment with a promise connected. The Commandment by technique of Church education extends to all rightful authority. even once you've undesirable father and mom, praying and sacrificing for his or her redemption is honoring them. yet possibly you is in basic terms unable to proceed to be with them.

Abortion was an option. At least they didn't do that. But my respect for that would only go so far if they were being terrible parents.
