Outside of the Gold Club scandal, Mutombo has a reputation for being a genuine person on and off the court. He is extremely intelligent (he speaks like 7 languages) and he has prominently demonstrated his philanthropic side.

The NBA probably will "fine" him but the money will be donated to his charitable endeavors for the African continent.

The really sad thing is that Mutumbo has lost almost all of his money , most of it trying to help his homeland, only to find it getting misused and stolen. I have respect for Mutumbo for trying to help, but what I can not forgive are the domestic violence complaints that he has been charged with for battering his ex-wife. I think that hitting women is abhorrent, and his good deed will always have an asterisk to my mind.
