What with all the negativities of society, be they political disputes, racial disputes or any other form of social problems exhibited by society, have you ever just gotten sick of it all? Maybe felt like selling everything you own, buying a good horse, black power rifle and various sundries, and then heading off to live as a mountain man?

It's tempting at times, though I doubt I'd live past the first harsh winter.

Boy do I agree with you. I just said something like that the other day. Not to listen to the TV telling you how many more troops have been killed for that day. Some times its just to much for the human mind to ponder. We've grown cold to hearing about all the killings and bloodshed. Just how much more, does a person have to endure, before divine intervention, helps us out.

Yes and I have done so several times. It is so much more relaxing. I ran off in the Bush of Alaska and saw a white wolverine. I canoed up the Dugen Creek and beavers splashed me to get out of their area. I heard the swoosh of Trumpeter Swans as they skiied in for a landing in the open waters. The rest was frozen. I yelled at a bear for tearing me clothes off the line and ripping them up. I fished in the Irish Spring Cove for Salmon while a black bear and her 2 babies looked for something to eat. I cut wood and split it for heat and cooking. I lived in a tent for 8 months during the winter. I never felt so alive and had such a great adventure. I wrote a book about it.
Yes, go do it. It can be done just about anywhere there are woods. I live at the end of a 1/2 mile driveway in an old house that was to be torn down. I fixed it up and am the caretaker now for these past 12 years. Plenty of deer, fox, coyote, wild turkey, bobcats, cougers, porcupines, plenty fish. I know where you can buy 20 acres for $2500.00 down and $200.00 per month.

I came as close as I could. Built a house in a VERY rural area on 8 acres. It is my escape after spending the day at work or out in the world doing daily activities.

Kind of, yes. It's not so much "society" as it is the stupidity of our lives that makes me feel this way.

I doubt I'll ever do it, but there are times it's very appealing.
