I recently had about $3000 in craftsman tools stolen and my insurance will not cover them. I've been looking around for a cheaper alternative but I still want a quality tool. I've come across these "Pittsburg" tools at Harbor Freight Tools and although I realize they aren't craftsman quality, for the price of them I thought they might suffice until I can afford to rebuild my collection with good tools. Has anybody had any good or bad experiences with this brand? Can anybody suggest a brand for me to look into? Thanks a lot, any help is greatly appreciated.

I am a journeyman mechanic and work for a cat dealership. Most of us guys here by pittsburg impact sockets. They holdup as well as any for the price. But for the rest of our tools we all have our favorites. S&K, Proto, Craftsman, Armstrong or Mac. Armstrong or Stanley are nice middle of the road brands. Harbor Freight has lower cost on some name brand tools also. We all buy from there, lots of good deals. I buy thier die grinders. Thier cheap and work well.Good luck and sorry you got ripped off. Happened to me once.

Unless I'm mistaken the place you found these tools is the Big Lots of the tool world. Now I'm not knocking them. They have their purpose and I have bought some of their tools when it was an emergency. But you get what you pay for. I've found that a good middle-of-the-road tool brand is Stanley (for hand tools). You can get them at Lowes or Home Depot. Even Wal-mart selld them. Unless you're in a specific trade where your tools are your life, just keep in mind of how much you may use this tool and decide on the quality from there. You may buy a few Craftman for the essentials and then use a less expensive tool for the other stuff you need from time to time. I've been thropugh the experience of having tools stolen, and you cannot just replace everything like you had. Sorry to hear of your misfortune and good luck to you.

These tools are cheaper then the others for a reason, they are not tempered to the same level as a quality tool. They work just fine for the average home owner who does not need them a lot or doing any serious work. But I have busted several knuckles and lost blood using them. I have even broken some of the ratchets so just beware if you buy them

yes the tools you have are ok to start with, but go with the Sears Craftsman tool line. Lifetime warranty no questions asked. If you want quality, go with the pro line of Craftsman tools, they are the high polish tools and not the satin finish. Sears stores are plentiful. Make your tool list of what tools you are using to perform your job function, add them to your Christmas list and if you were good all year, the tools you need will be under the Xmas tree ready for your use. Dont forget, any tool used for on the job are also tax deductibles so save the receipts!.....gl....... happy Holidays
