If you are happy with your Norton Anti virus, then you can go to Staples and buy the 2007 version. You will pay more than $40 for it, but you will get a rebate in which you will end up paying $29.95+tx vs. $40+tx annual renewal through Norton. I am happy with Norton, and that's what I do. Although there are more expensive, and more cheaper ones, I've found Norton to be the best for me, in my opinion, and I've tried several inferior anti virus products. Good luck to you, and I hope you are happy with any virus protection you buy, or get for free. Be wary of the free stuff, even though it sounds good. I'm not trying to discourage you from trying them, just be careful.

Before uninstalling Norton, I would recommend F-Secure. I do not recommend AVG as many are suggesting as it is not as good as they believe. For AVG to be worth installing you will need to purchase AVG Pro, which costs. The free version is only a basic AV solution but will not protect your PC in "Real Time". Norton uses too many of the PC's resources and is not as reliable as it was in the late 90s. Many infections go undetected. AVG also has a poor detection rate, unless you purchase the paid for version. Therefore, if you want good protection, with regular definition updates (sometimes more than once a day) F-Secure is the best on the market and it's far cheaper than Symantec (Norton) or McAffee. F-Secure is given free to Barclays Bank On-Line Account holders, in the UK. If a major bank trusts it, for it's customers, it must be good. This month, I have had three Trojan attacks and they were all detected and blocked by F-Secure. One of them, I wasn't aware that it existed but it was detected so F-Secure must be well up to date with their definitions. Norton only release definitions around once a week and AVG release updates around once every two weeks. F-Secure release an update as soon as they have a new definition which is sometimes daily or more than once a day for the highest protection.

These other people who are suggesting AVG are right!. AVG is a better program and you can download it free off the Internet. Just do a Google search or go to AVG.com.
Norton has a tendency to take over your computer. AVG updates itself automatically and has caught more viruses in the last six months than Norton ever did.
When you go to the page to download it, notice that there is also a virus removal tool you can also download. It is a separate download. Don't pass it up. It's all free!
Oh yea, For SPYWARE, got lavasoft.com and download
Ad-aware. It's great. It's free too!.Be careful. They are several other programs that have similar names... like Ad-ware... these are not good. They infect you with so much much spyware, you get sick of it and end having to buy there program to get rid of it. Remember.... AD-AWARE from Lavasoft is the right one!

According to people smarter than me: NOD32, however Avast and AVG are ok too. AntiVir – had BED past experience with it. It sometimes lacks precise info of detection (paths), quarantines as well it appears to be susceptible to some AV killing malwares with nerve wrecking reaction of AntyVir Tech Support in regard to it (sort of: “Yeah we know its fishy, its have been for a while here and,... we don’t know what is it...” LOL).
By the way even some vendors merge and mix programs functions and purpose AV is not replaceable by anty spyware as AdAware for instance. Should use both not one instead of other.
Some people believe that combine application like: Norton, McAfee or Zone Alarm are not the best as they tend to produce conflicts and do arbitrary behind back actions.
