Sweet corn needs planty of humus thoroughly mixed into the soil. Adding well-rotted manure about 12 inch deep is ideal. The roots go deep and wide. The soil must be neutral pH 6.5 - 7.Sow seeds 1/2 - 1 inch deep and about 12 inch apart ,18 inches apart when hilling up. Plant 2 weeks before the last frost. Hilling up sweet corn while growing gives the plant support, but be careful not to damage the roots. Corn prefers about 3 months of hot sun and warm nights. While growing keep the soil moist. Mulching is beneficial.

Soil that has humus and is somewhat sandy. You don't want clay based. It likes hot temps, but not for extended periods.
