Yes, I was in the shops earlier this summer when 'The Fifth Mountain ' by Paulo Coelho caught my eye. Not only was the cover particularly eyecatching but there was something intriguing about the title. I picked it up and read the blurb on the back, and decided to treat myself to the book.
My son, who was with me at the time, told me I should go for The Alchemist. He had read it at a friend's house and found it un put downable! he read it in a day, he really could not put it down.
So I bought them both, and read the Fifth Mountain first. It was really good, the sort of book that fills your thoughts when you're doing something else.
Then I read The Alchemist, and enjoyed it, but I am not sure I enjoyed it as much as the Fifth Mountain. But it's a lovely story, and it's one of those books that, when you have finished them, you think, Oh, that was good, I'll have to read it again!
I have looked at Paulo Coelho's website, which is very interesting, and borrowed his latest book from the library (The Zahir) That's longer than the other two and a good read

Great, many of his books are also good, including the Devil and Miss Prym which relates to the human ability to be good or evil, and as the first answerer said 11 minutes, about a Brazilian prostitute.

Yes I read it some years ago. A great self-help book; easy to read and much better than a lot of the self-help money-spinners. Its power exists to the extent it provokes the reader to reconsider their own life.

Definitely one of those books that you either think has changed your life or is utter drivel.
I'm in the latter camp - it's a fairy tale pretending to be something deep.

One of the best read I ever had. Life journey teaches you as you go by and it prepares you for your destiny...
I liked that the author used simple everyday philosophy in his story. It is absorbed with ease and pleasure

Yes - a lot of pretentious pseudo-spiritual twaddle.
