Do you need any forms of ID? What other types of documents would you need? How much money do most banks want you to give them to open the account? How much do the checks cost? Do you have to have credit? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Thank you!

Usually all you need is your driver's license, although they will probably ask for your Social Security number also.
The minimum is usually about $100. Checks can be anywhere from free to $25 and up. Depends on how crazy you get with the designs.
They are cheaper buying them from ads in the paper.
Shop around on the Internet. The banks usually advertise their specials concerning opening a new account.

Depending on how much you put in the account, that will determine your fees. The more you put in, the less fees you have to pay.

Check out Bank of America as an example:

I opened a second account to route some money from each pay each week to save for something. The min was $25.00. That's a basic no frills no interest no nothing account. There are fees and higher minimums for more perks.

Get plain basic checks. Around ten-fifteen bucks a box. Why spend money on Snoopy checks or Simpsons or eagles or something? If my money isn't enough to make people happy they don't need a picture on my check to entertain them. But these days you can pay most stuff on line. I haven't written more than ten checks all year. A box will last forever. Unless of course you are a woman and have a compulsive need to pay for EVERYTHING with a check and slow down every line I'm in at the store rather than carry cash or use an ATM card.

But I'm ranting here...

Yes, a driver's license, most banks will let you opening an account with 50 or 100. It all depends on what type of checks you want. When you go the bank where you want to open the checking account/savings account, they will explain your options to you. Best Wishes!
