Please provide short version of career, teams, honors, incidents, etc. Inspite of recent controversy I genuinely think Kenny has tried to change his image to something of a more positive nature. I think he has found his nich in his career as a teacher, helper, a leaning post for the younger pitchers on the team. He seems to have provided a stabilizer force on the pitching staff. I don't won't to over simplify the guy or his career, just shed a little perspective. Even with this latest event I still think he has proven to be a good addition for the team. I'm getting a little long with this question and explaination, however I beleive some people need additional chances in life before they find themselves. Now maybe this guy has pulled a great snow job on me and many other Tiger fans, I hope not.

Kenny Rogers did not play organized baseball until his senior year at Plant City High School in Florida. There he played almost exclusively as an outfielder, hitting .375 and earning the team’s defensive player of the year award.
Because of his great arm strength, Rogers first reached the Major Leagues as a relief pitcher. He excelled in that role for four years in Texas, including an American League-best 81 appearances in 1992. The following year, however, Kenny was converted into a starting pitcher. Rogers thrived in the new role. He won 16 games in 1993 and went 17-7 in 1995, appearing in the All-Star Game for the first time in his career.
On July 29, 1994, Kenny Rogers pitched a perfect game for the Texas Rangers against the California Angels, only the 12th such gem of the century.
During his career, he has played for the Texas Rangers (1989-95, 2000-02, 2004-present), the New York Yankees (1996-97), the Oakland Athletics (1998-99), the New York Mets (1999), and the Minnesota Twins (2003). Rogers has won two Gold Glove awards as a pitcher with the Rangers in 2000 and 2002. In 2004, Kenny won 18 games for the Rangers, and was a major spark in the resurgence of the Texas Rangers as a serious contender in the American League West.
* All-Star: 2004, 1995
* Gold Glove (A.L.) Pitcher: 2002, 2000
* ESPY: Play of the Year (1995)
* Perfect Game: Texas Rangers (July 29, 1994
And a great article on CBCsports as follows:
For Kenny Rogers, it was out with the old and in with the new.
The 41-year-old starter threw eight shutout innings to extend his playoff scoreless streak to 23 frames, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2 of the World Series on a chilly Sunday night in the Motor City.

The Tigers' victory evened the series at one game apiece. Game 3 is set for Tuesday in St. Louis, where Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter will face Nate Robertson.
Rogers allowed just two hits Sunday while striking out five and walking three to run his 2006 playoff record to 3-0. He also moved into third place on baseball's all-time list of shutout strings in a single post-season, effectively erasing the disappointing Fall Classic legacy he carried into this year.
"This is where it's at and what it's all about, being able to come in here and do something like this," Rogers said. "I've done as bad as you can do on the field. It's great to have some success."

I have trouble placing blame on the player when they are hounded on the field by someone in the media trying to make a name. I think that the cameraman in Texas should have been pushed a whole lot harder than he was.
