While you left out one little, but important, bit of information ... the make and model of your freezer, the answer will still be the same: all evaporator fan motors will be mounted in association with the evaporator, which is the cooling coil, and is always going to be located inside and in the rear of the freezer compartment. While a little squirt of turbine oil MAY take care of the problem, you are doing the correct thing to replace the motor. They just aren't that expensive, especially if you can do it yourself.
Just make sure the noise isn't coming from the condenser fan motor, the motor located in the rear and next to the compressor.

The evaporator fan motor is located in the freezer compartment. You should see a hump on the freezer shelf or deck. On some you need to take all the screws out of this deck. I have found that just putting turbine oil or a non detergent oil of the bearing will alleviate the noise problem. When they go bad it is just usually dry bearing.
