By "A"??? What?? Who??? It is an emission problem more than likely! You also have to reset the light once you find and make repairs causing it to come on in the first place.

It could possibly be the themostat. Depending on what the code was that was set. If the thermostat opens too soon, say around 74 to 76 degrees instead of in the 80's the pcm will detect this and say that the coolant temperature sensor is malfunctioning causing the engine light to come on. If this is the case then the thermostat is located handy to the throttle body. Easy to replace but should be done by someone who is mechanicly inclined.

The check engine light indicates that a problem with the fuel delivery system (computer and sensors) has a problem.
Take it to An Auto Zone Store and have them pull the codes for you. The codes will lead you to the problem. If you're not mechanically inclined, take it to a qualified tech.

You did not idicate what code was stored. If they said it needed a thermostat it probably was a code related to engine temp out of range, meaning temp not getting to desired operating specs.

It is either emission, or your MAF (mass air flow sensor). Good luck
