I don't particularly like RnB but I think one of the main reasons for the female fanbase can be found in its history. Typically black women and women in general have been disadvantaged and so one of the few ways black women could be themselves was thorugh music, often thriugh gospel and also early RnB. This created a 'women doing it for themselves' image which many women of any colour aspired and aspire to. Even now, RnB is one of the few areas of music where black women are dominant.
Also, many songs are emotion based, with themes of love, marriage and relationships being common even now. This would appeal to girls a lot more than boys- girls are more likely to discuss and reveal their emotions, whilst lads are not.
Also, don't get real RnB confused with the rap style stuff that comes out. Most people don't know the difference and also fail to make the gender distinction also. RnB is about sexuality and love, not sex.
Personally I like the odd song, but am not truly into it. I prefer electronica, techno, some industrial and indie music, and I also tend to be turned off by mushy love songs or songs about sex. But RnB is truly an art form in itself..

Hahaha. Though I know a few guys that are into RnB, you are kinda right, it is usually girls. I can handle it once in a while, but I'm definitely more a rock girl. RnB takes no talent to sing. Those girls (and guys) hit maybe 5 notes the whole song. (hint hint Rihanna anyone?) But hey, it's better than country...

RnB used to be well liked until it's demise in the mid 90's. Now all we have left is the SH** they CALL R&B. It's terribly embarrassing. I can't imagine Gladys Knight or Phyllis Hyman running around in a music video with a skirt so short on that it reveals her panties. The true crime is, the most popular R&B is the most degrading, so the next generation of would-be R&B musians will be influenced by CRAP.

Not JUST girls who like RnB you know. Although I'm essentially a rocker, I do chill out to a little RnB from time to time, if I'm in a chill out mood. You can't really brand any music to either gender. Everyone to their own I think.

RnB usually plays on emotions and drama. Thats why is is more of a girl thing.

Metal, Rap and other more hard core music fits with dudes because is is more aggressive. It gets our testosterone pumping.
Eminem, Snoop, Slayer, Pantera, Ludicris, Hell ya boys!

i'm female and i like RnB, ok not all the music, but i also like pop and dislike some pop. I know plenty of men who like RnB too, so i don't know where you got the idea it's just girls who like it!
