I am not 100% sure on this so don't take my word for it. But I heard it was because you "reach" sexual climax you have to get there hence, "coming" But they wanted to differentiate between come and so *** was born. Since men ejaculate during orgasm their semen has been referred to as ***.
However, you may want to note that here in Japan the women cry "Iku Iku" which means I am going. Not coming. The men don't usually say anything but they groan a lot.

It's just a progressive-slang thing -- as soon as a lot of people really know what a word means, it gets swapped for something else. About a century ago the slang term was "spend". Back in Roman times it was the Latin word for "irrigate". The changes are pretty arbitrary.

A come shot (usually spelled *** shot[1]), pop shot, or money shot is the record (on film or video or, less frequently, in some versions of glamour photography) of a man ejaculating on someone's person. It is typically the cinematographer's indication, within the narrative framework of a pornographic film, that the sexual act recorded has concluded.
