Most people will say yes, but actually you don't. The first ovulation occurs approximately two weeks before the first period bleeding. So theoretically a 12 year old who has not had a period yet can still get pregnant if she has sex during the time her first ovulation happens.

According to my ob/gyn, yes. If you are not having a period, that means you are not ovulating. Ovulation HAS to occur in order to get pregnant. However, if for some reason you don't have your period forever and then suddenly your body remembers that it's supposed to be shooting out an egg, etc, and you have intercourse around the time you ovulate, you can end up pregnant without actually having a period.

Not a regular period, but you can have implantation bleeding after 6 to 10 days after your ovulation. Also some women experience slight bleeding through the pregnancy, but if so you should consult your doctor.

Reading some of the answers given, it's no wonder I see so many pregnant teens in our clinic.
The answer as NO, for reasons that have been mentioned. You ovulate first, if you don't get pregnant, your body "rejects" the egg and you bleed.

I think you mean "Do you have to have had a period to in order to get pregnant?"
The answer is no.
You can get pregnant if you have never had a period.
What has to happen is before your body rejects the first egg it ever released, a semen reaches that egg and it settles in your uterus.
Its basically getting pregnant at the first chance your body has ever had to get pregnant.

If you haven't started menstruating it's unlikely that you're ovulating and therefore unlikely that you'll get pregnant. But if you're old enough to be thinking about having sex, that period could be right around the corner, so use condoms anyways, please!!! Talk to your family Dr. or go to a clinic if you haven't got one.
