It varies from woman to woman. Some take up to a year to stabilise again.

I took the Depo shot for nearly five years. I started taking it in March of '98 and about six months after that, I bled straight through for almost 90 days. When I came off of the shot, it took nearly two years for me to have a "normal" period. I would spot occasionally but would never actually have a full-on period. After finally getting my first one, it took me almost three more years to become "semi-normal". This was extremely hard on my husband and I because we wanted badly to have a baby and couldn't b/c we never knew what exactly was going on with my body from month to month. I tried forcing my body to do what it should with fertility meds and Provera but it never really did what it was supposed to do.

My first ob/gyn said that Depo lives in fat cells, therefore if you are overweight like I am(thanks in part to that awful Depo shot!) it could be longer for the effects to fully wear off.

I am happy to say that after all those years of waiting and trying when we could, I'm finally pregnant and due in the middle of April.

Be patient, Depo effects everyone differently. I would think if you've only had one shot, you should be starting soon...I don't know much about vitex or what it's supposed to do but I do know several people who have used it with good success.

Good luck!

I am wondering the same question. I have been on depo since February 2004 and I have now stopped (October 2006) taking the shot. I have yet to start my period. Let me know if you find anything out!!!

I was on depo for five years and never had a period until I went off. The doctor said that this is perfectly normal and I would have gone through normal menopause if I had stayed on it forever. Enjoy not having the periods! I went off after five years because I was devoloping ensomnia.
