i had a health teacher in like the 9th grade who told us she had this thing inside of her so she can't have a baby or a period. how does that work and what is it?

it wasn't her getting her tubes tied. she said it was some kind of thing that looked like a T.

Ha ha, magnets. Haha.

Seriously though. She had an IUD (Intrauterine device). Here is more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intrauterine_device It has to be put in and removed by a Doctor. It is a form of Birthcontrol.

The thing youare referring to is an IUD..You right it looks kind of like a T and is a form of birth control... No one is really sure how it works, at at least that is what my teacher told me in the 9th grade, but it does. I am not sure of how effective it is.

It's called an IUD or inter uterine device. It is made of copper and it had little threads that hang down. Generally it is used in women who have had children and are not on the birth control pill.

That is called an Intra-Uterine Device or IUD. It's put in by a doctor. Its purpose is to irritate the lining of the uterus so that an egg cannot implant, therefore pregnancy can't occur.

it's called an IUD "inner-uteral device" back in the day it's said that they were pretty scarey things, for instance you could still become pregnant and babies would be born with these "devices" attached to them in some way, also they could cause major abnormalities for both baby and mother. However, the good news is, today they are much better and I have friends that would buy stock in them if they could! One point that I have to stress, however, is that I don't remember them preventing menstral cycles back then or today (that's more hormones as with the pill and shot). Anyway you should really check with your doctor to have it all explained entirely.

It is an Intra-uterine Device (IUD). There are a few different varieties, but I think the "T" shape is the most common.
