At 5 months, babies go through some emotional changes, and social awareness. This is the age when they start to notice other people and stare at every face they see. They are realizing that there are other people in their world, they are starting to explore by crawling around, and they spend quite a lot of time observing what is going on around them now.

At night, they feel some separation anxiety because they realize that Mommy isn't always there and they want to be comforted. Their new feeling of a big world is a bit scary to them, and when they go to sleep, Mommy isn't there.

So just comfort her as well as you can. When she wakes up, try calling out to her with the phrase, "Mommy's here!" You can say that during the day once in awhile, too, so that she connects with it. Once she passes this phase, she will realize that you are there even when she cannot see you, and it will be OK.

She might be teething, going through a growth spurt, or stuffed up. Most likely its her teeth. My son did the same thing- and there really isn't much to do. If you can try to let her cry herself back to sleep- if you pick her up every time she will get use to you consoling her and then she will rely on you every time she wakes up. Just be patient- I'm sure those teeth will pop through!

I dont know if u are giving her cereal yet, if not if U give her cereal in her milk (thick like cream of wheat or grits) before bed, it will help her sleep bcuz she could be waking up hungry...also she could be teething and Hylands teething tablets work great, its no nasty taste, they dissolve as soon as they hit anything wet, but U can rub the gums with them and she will stop crying right away

Teething. You may want to try rubbing her mouth down with ambesol before bed, or getting teething rings that you freeze and letting her chew on them before bedtime. The first teeth are always the hardest to get through, after they break through the gums then you should be able to sleep through the night again.
Good luck.

Check the obvious first.. Hungry? Cold? Wet nappy? Uncomfortable? Ill?
Once you know they are all OK I would say leave the baby to self soothe. You going into her every time rewards her crying and will create a vicious circle. Try to break it now before she gets even worse.

She sounds like shes growing and hungry. A lot of times they will go through growth spurts where they are fussy and hungry.

She is either in the middle of one or has grown enough she needs more food now. If you are concerned, please call and ask the doctor nurses for advice.

Make sure she is comfortable temperature wise and that none of her clothes or diapers pinch or pull.

I'm not questioning your life with your partner, but If you guys fight than can affect the way a child sleeps or doesn't sleep. If two fight then the child will have nightmares and wake up alot.
