well despite what everyone is saying here I have to disagree. I spray rust proofing and undercoating for 3 dealerships. The rustproof is a carmel colored liquid that has a rust inhibitor in it. The undercoat is the black spray that is sprayed on the bottom ot the car. It has NO rust inhibitors in it what so ever. It is sold as a sound inhibitor. And also people like it for the looks it makes the bottom of the car all black and uniform looking. But it does not protect from rust. Now people might be talking about the carmel colored stuff and calling it undercoating in that case it would be a rust inhibitor. But if you take your car to get it undercoated chances are it will be the black sound inhibitor.

Undercoating is what you put underneath your car, it is like you are painting the bottom of your car with clear paint and this is used so you do not get any rust on your car.

it is similar to spray on bedliner. they apply it to he underside to prevent rust and corrosion.
It used to be used by used car salesmen to jack up the price. Although, the cars back then usually didn't have it.
