I think you need to listen to the lyrics more carefully, didn't she also sing something like "in 77 & 69 revolution was in the air".
I think she was drawing some sort of correlation between the hippies of the sixties and the punks of the seventies.
Maybe cos as a young girl looking back she is getting the two decades intertwined!
Just my view

No. It's just Sandi Thom pretending to be punk and failing miserably.

Absolutement, no!!! Just remember "Punks Not Dead", but we can all hope that Sandi has a sudden, sad but violent accident with an electrical appliance. "Ground Control to Major Thom. Your circuits dead, there's something wrong".

i think the song is about likeing the punk anarchic ideas and also the flower power movement (both anti establishment) hence i wish i was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair (77 punk) and (69 hippie) movements??

No. on no account. If i could desire to place a classification to myself. I see myself greater of a rocker. music now's greater a flavor of your classic now, rock n' roll. Odds are that punks then might in simple terms beat the tar out of people who now say their punk.

That song winds me up. Punk rockers with flowers in their hair is a total oxymoron.

So, in answer, no. Punk rockers had soap and gob and dirt, but never flowers.

I think you are getting Punks mixed up with the 60's crew who went to San Francisco and wore flowers in their hair.

as my friend once told me...
Punk rockers with flowers in their hair would get the **** beaten outta 'em
she was one herself so i believed her...I'm a metalhead.
She should've never sung that song...it got into my head FOR 5 DAYS!!! She should go listen to some Metallica.

I think she's seeing the late seventies through rose tinted specs, whats a decade between friends!

Mind you 'I wish I was a punk rocker with snot all in my hair' doesn't really have the same effect does it!
