As a member of the middle class, I have to say that I find this argument laughable. I have gone 'round and 'round with a history prof over this. Republicans cut my taxes - Democrats want to raise my taxes. I have more money in my pocket under the Republicans - Democrats want to give my hard-earned money away. What is so hard to understand about that?

The current new GOP has worked very hard to make Republicans so partisan they can't see the truth in front of them and dismiss anything called Liberal. They have been convinced to vote against their own interests. They have been fooled. Some Republicans are awakening(Pat Buchanan, John Dean) others may take a long time. The country is in so much trouble financially now-people spending 105% of what they make-we now have a negative savings rate. People don't want to admit they're in financial trouble and will continue to want to be part of the elite. And as long as things look good, they keep living on credit-after all the government is deep in debt and thy keep hearing tha's a good thing., 51% of US Treasury debt owned by foreign investors.
