Around the late 1990's, when I was in my upper 20's, I found myself turned off by all the rap that was creeping into the mainstream. Not to mention cheesy pop that sampled (ripped off!) bits of older songs. And all the young boy groups and the then-teenage Britneys and Christinas started making me feel isolated and old. I went through a phase of listening to oldies and 1980's music for a couple of years. Now, at age 34, I listen to contemporary country. But very little pop or CHR.

We don't stop listening .When something comes along that is better than classic rock and roll, I will start listening to the new music. Elvis had to be overturned by the Beatles but both were exciting. Havent heard much exciting or new forms of music since then. We aren't like our parents and listening to the old stuff...there just hasnt been much in innovative pop music since the 60 and 70's

New music is horrible.. I cant even stand it.. I am the same way I listen to the music that I grew up on and some music from today but only a handful of songs so I know what u mean. All today's music is just really freakin stupid especially all the gangster Rap.. I mean is that really teaching our children today anything? It is stupid I could go on forever but I wont but yes I do not listen to that trash..

UUGGHH..what a scary question...I really stopped with the new stuff when I was around 28/29 years old...and when I turned 40 I listened to a radio station one day instead of a CD..and was really amazed at the new music, I actually liked alot of it!
Still listen to old favorites, but am more willing to listen to the radio than I was in my 30's..mid life crisis??? lol

I don't think you have to - I just think you have to find new music that will appeal to you. If you rely on Top 40 radio for new music, of course you're going to get sick of it.
Check out music blogs like insound.com or music for robots. The music gets more obscure, but the idea is to turn you on to new things and keep you from going back to your old Foghat records.

I think it's a personal preference and how open-minded you are. My mom is past fifty and still listens to the latest hip-hop and whatever. However my dad is stuck on the old stuff. My mom is also alot more liberal and my dad more conservative. I think it has a lot to do with your open-mindedness (if that's a word)

I did that too, until I had a teenager. I began to listen to new stuff when I would listen to her music.

im the same way! music just doesnt sound the same. my parents always used to say that it would soon come a time when most new music would sound like trash to me......like it did to them as they got older. they were right!
