Okay I am due on Monday and I had an appointment today with the doc. I still havent dilated, but I have effaced. The doc. schedualed a ultrasound for Monday because he said he thinks the baby is to big to fit into my birth canal. He has dropped just not fully because his head is big and he weighs alot, and I am to petite to fit him. So I have an ultrasound at 1 on monday and an appointment right after, they think that I will need to schedual a c-section right away. I had been having sharp pains and the nurses have wrote it off a thinking it was a bladder infection when my doc. said in fact it was him trying to move down and he cant. So he will either be here on monday or tuesday. How bad are c-sections compared to natural labor? Im kind of scared because I didnt even think of that as an option because they kept saying he is so healthy and I am doing fine. Well he is still healthy just to big for me, which is weird cause I dont have gest. diabetes. some advice about c-sections please

Hun there is nothing to worry about people have c-sections all of the time. I had 2 one was emergency and the other was scheduled.. The difference between them though, is that with a c-section you will not be able to get up for a full 24 hrs after you have it. And at the time, they will make sure that you can use the restroom and so forth.. A bikini line cut is the best kind to have not the one where they go up and down as they do not heal as well and make it less likely that if you have another birth after this one to have it vaginal.. You actually will probably have less bleeding afterwards, than with vaginal birth. You will be on more pain drugs with a c-section than you are with vaginal. Will be alot sorer and when you cough you have to hold down on your stomach as to not let the sutures pop out, you won't be able to take a bath for a week I believe, you can take showers but you can not use soap on the area nor rub it.. U have to pat it dry, and keep it dry as well as to prevent infection. U won't be able to resume sexual activites as quickly as with vaginal because of course when you orgasm the uterine muscels contract and that can cause problems. U won't be able to lift anything over the weight of your baby for 4-6 wks. U will be more physically drained, but your love and devotion to your child will make you be able to continue on through it. Hun you will be okay, and please feel free to contact me on a more personal way than through here if you have any other questions. c_matrisch1983@yahoo.com I will be more than happy to talk with you. God bless you and your family, and have faith in yourself and your abilities and you shall be just fine.

I have never had a baby but my best friend has 2 kids both delivered by c-section. Yes it is more painful but she was up and walking around again in a day. It hurts more after the pain killers wear off. Once you have your beautiful baby boy in your arms it won't matter how much it hurt. You prob won't even remember. I know you are scared and I would be to but at least you are having a healthy baby, who knows you might even get a supprise over the weekend! Good Luck and congrads on your gift of being able to give a new life to someone. I hope all works out well for you and your baby.

As a nurse and a mom who has had 2 sections, I can tell you it is nothing to be afraid of. You will go into the surgical suite, sit on the table, lean forward to "touch your toes" as if you can do that when you are pregnant!, they will then insert a spinal anesthesia which will numb you from about the mid chest down. You will feel them tugging and your body will be moving a little bit, but you will feel no pain at all during the procedure and it goes super fast!
After, they will take the baby over to the warmer and let dad hang out w/ it for a while while they sew you up. You will have an incision across your lower abdomen that runs widthwise across. It looks huge at first but as your abdomen shrinks it will get smaller and eventually hard to notice.
You'll be fine :)

I had a C-Section because my baby was in breech position. I was very nervous but it helped that my husband was by my side at all times and he kept his hand at my forehead since he couldn't touch my hands. He kept talking to me and that helped A LOT! You'll get a little nervous when you see all the needles but once they give you the spinal block you won't feel a thing. The whole thing won't last more than 20 minutes and then you'll hear your baby's cries and you'll be sooo happy!!! You won't be able to eat anything other than ice chips for 24 hours after the delivery, Once the anesthesia wears off you'll be very constipated. It can last days so take the precaution to not eat anything heavy the day before. Try sticking to fruit, oatmeal or bowls of cereal, trust me, you'll be thankful afterwords. The pain at the incision won't be to bad, an advil can do wonders to help you. After 5 days from the surgery you won't feel a thing, at least that was my case. Good luck!

Nothing to be sorry about honey. I take it this is the first baby for you? My 10lb daughter was a c-section got the whole thing of video. She would not drop down and i did not dilate past 5 so they gutted me and yanked her out. Ha Ha no it was not so bad. I had to have a c-section with my last child too. The pain is a pain but they do give you pretty groovy drugs for it if you ***** at them to. You do not want post-op pneumonia so cough up the stuff in your lungs. unless you give you a local and you are numb from the waist down. It will be weird but you will see you baby come out and you will not feel a thing til later. get up and moving around asap afterwards.

A C-section is surgery, so expect to stay in the hospital for between 4 to 6 days. You will be awake for the procedure, but you'll be given an anesthetic that will numb you from the chest down so you won't feel anything other than some pressure as the baby is removed. Some women find a c-section is not as stressful as a natural birth.

Your doc can't tell you ahead of time if the baby won't fit. Ultrasounds are often WAY off about size.

I am only about 5'2" and weigh less than 100 lbs when not PG. I've had three unmedicated vaginal births with no complications.....biggest baby was 8 lbs.

Walk a lot and try to bring your baby down. This can help you dilate.

Have a lot of sex. Semen can ripen your cervix and orgasm can cause contractions.

Start taking Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) as a vaginal suppository before bed. Prick two capsules with a pin and insert them near your cervix. If you want, you can squeeze the oil out and apply it to the cervix with your fingers.

If it were me, I'd *INSIST* on a trial of labor before resorting to a c/s. A healthy mother isn't likely to grow a baby that her body can't birth. You don't have gestational diabetes, do you? What is your doc's c/s rate? He seems "cut happy" to me. I'd consider a second opinion if your doc says no to the trial of labor.

He can't tell you if the baby won't fit prior to labor. Right before/during labor, there are hormones released that cause your pelvic bones to loosen up and spread apart more.

Certain positions, such as squatting, widens your pelvic outlet. This would be a good pushing position for you. Actually, do a lot of squats this weekend too and see if that brings the baby down more.

well, it's a rather simple procedure but I'd be sacared too, I do want a vaginal birth. You won't feel anything, the thing is it takes longer to recover than a vaginal birth because it's like having a major surgery. You'll have to take care of you and your baby when you go home, so be sure your hubby helps around a lot the first couple of weeks. Good luck honey and congratulations on your big baby...how exciting to know next week you'll have your little one with you. Congratulations,.

I've never had a vaginal delivery, but I've had 2 C-sections. So, I can't really compare them but I will tell you a c-section is not that bad. In fact, I think they're fabulous. You schedule the appointment to have your baby, no labor, delivery in about 20 minutes. Can't hardly beat it.

Recovery is no picnic, but it's not bad either. You'll be sore because they cut through your stomach muscles of course. But either type of delivery has it's good and bad points. Try and relax (as much as you can).

The actual birth process is easier as you dont have the pain, just lay back and let the surgeons do the work. After, the recovery period is longer because a C section is major surgery.
